## What it is

Food Finder is a subscription-based platform that lets neighbors share unopened,
not-expired packaged food with each other at no cost. It is not a food bank,
not a delivery service, and not a charitable rescue program. It is a reciprocal
exchange between neighbors — the same members who share food one week are often
the ones finding it the next.

## How it works (3 steps)

1. Members list unopened, not-expired packaged food items they won't use.
2. Nearby members claim items and arrange a quick handoff.
3. No money is exchanged at any point — the platform fee members pay for access
is what keeps the food itself free.

## The problem we're addressing

Roughly **30–40% of the U.S. food supply is wasted** (USDA / EPA estimates),
the majority of it at the household level. Most existing solutions are
top-down: food banks, rescue orgs, delivery services that charge a fee.
Food Finder is bottom-up — neighbors trading directly with neighbors, with no
money changing hands.

## Why it's different

- **Peer-to-peer, not top-down.** Neighbors trading with neighbors.
- **No money rule.** Payments between members are structurally prohibited.
  Food stays free, permanently.
- **Subscription-funded.** A small platform fee pays for the infrastructure
so the food is never monetized.
- **Mission-first.** The product exists to reduce household food waste and
connect neighbors — not to extract a fee on every transaction.

## What you can share

Unopened, not-expired packaged food items. The case of seltzer from a bulk
store. The cereal the kids stopped eating. The protein bars that didn't taste
right. The extra pantry items from a recipe you tried once.

## What you cannot do

- Charge for food, tip, or accept gratuities — on or off the platform
- Share opened, expired, or prepared/cooked food
- Use the platform commercially (no resellers, no restaurants offloading
  inventory)

## Boilerplate (for end of articles)

## Quotes available for editorial use

> "The 30 to 40 percent food-waste number has been in the headlines for a
> decade, but most people don't have a practical thing to do about it on a
> Tuesday night. Food Finder is that practical thing. You list what you're
> not going to use. A neighbor picks it up. Nobody pays anyone. That's the
> whole product."
> — Food Finder spokesperson

> "We deliberately built the no-money rule into the structure of the product,
> not as a guideline. If food can be monetized, eventually it will be. We took
> that option off the table on day one."
> — Food Finder spokesperson

> "Sharers and Finders aren't two different groups of people. They're the
> same neighbors on different days — the family with too much one week and
> the family that needs a hand the next. That's what makes it sustainable."
> — Food Finder spokesperson
